The Alhambra, Granada, Spain

This part of the Alcazaba shows the foundation walls for what would have been the barracks of the soldiers that guarded the Alhambra. Just inside the main wall is a pathway that could be flooded in case of attack, much like a giant moat, to prevent the enemy from being able to enter. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to help in 1492 when the fortress was attacked by Charles V's forces.
